POLS Engineering ehf
POLS Engineering is an engineering company in Ísafjörður, Iceland, and the maker of SM4. Our founder worked as a snow observer and wanted a sensor that was cheaper, safer and easier to install than the ones in use at the time. The result is SM4:
- Easy to install, with no special technical skills needed.
- Light enough to carry up a mountain on foot.
- Reliable in drifting snow and icing, where many snow-depth sensors struggle.
- Works on any pole or mast at least as tall as the temperature cable.
- Measures air temperature and the snowpack's temperature profile as well as snow depth, which are key for assessing avalanche risk.
- Also works beyond snow, measuring temperature profiles in the sea, in fresh water and in the ground.
